Sanctuary Church
Designing a Digital Sanctuary
Sanctuary Covenant Church brought me in to lead a comprehensive website redesign that could better reflect their mission, values, and vibrant community. I led a collaborative discovery process, refined their visual identity, and designed a bold, modern site built to serve both their congregation and new visitors. From storytelling to technical planning, I focused on creating a digital space that feels welcoming, functional, and rooted in purpose.

Color System
Sanctuary’s color system was designed to reflect its vibrant, purpose-driven culture. The primary red, Sanctuary Red, captures the passion and urgency of their mission, while Praise Gold adds warmth and hope. Neutral tones like Covenant Black, Stone Grey, and Sanctuary White provide balance and clarity, ensuring accessibility and versatility across digital and print touchpoints.
The visual system is based on playing with the axes of space, even in the layout of the pieces. This is not only a reference to Zeen’s three-dimensional work, but also a way of underlining the company’s approach to transforming concepts and designs into three-dimensional and realistic visual creations.
Typography System
Building on Sanctuary’s existing use of Gotham Bold, I introduced a refined type system that honors tradition while adding contemporary flair. Ivy Presto brings a touch of sophistication for headlines and scripture callouts, while Owners serves as the primary body font chosen for its readability and clean, approachable feel across devices.

Crafting the visual
voice & vibe
Before diving into design, I started with a moodboarding phase to get a feel for the energy, diversity, and voice of Sanctuary. I pulled references that blended bold typography, textured backgrounds, vibrant photography, and expressive color.
Inspired by those early boards, I developed a visual language that felt both modern and mission-driven. I leaned into full-bleed imagery, BIG type, and textured overlays to bring warmth and depth. The result is a look and feel that’s not only visually engaging but deeply aligned with the spirit of the church: joyful, honest, rooted, and alive.

Purpose at Every Click
This wasn’t just a redesign… it was a site built for purpose. Every detail was crafted to support Sanctuary’s mission: to connect, serve, and tell their story in a way that’s clear, engaging, and accessible for all.
The new website was designed to be both inviting and intuitive — a space where new visitors can feel welcomed and longtime members can stay connected. From storytelling to streamlined navigation, every screen was crafted with clarity, purpose, and accessibility in mind.
